In this episode of Let’s Talk, we speak with Blair McDougall, Labour MP for East Renfrewshire and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Hong Kong and Uyghurs. McDougall, who introduced the Jimmy Lai Bill in the UK Parliament, advocates for legal consular access for British journalists and a special envoy for those unfairly detained abroad.
As a Labour Party member, McDougall calls for a stronger UK stance against China’s human rights violations, breaches of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, and transnational repression. However, he believes the UK should also continue trade with China, as long as there are clear red lines on human rights and democratic values.
He suggests that China should face consequences, such as blocking the proposed Chinese mega-embassy in London, revoking the special status of the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Office and imposing stricter screening of Chinese diplomats in the UK.
Despite his advocacy, McDougall is worried about Hongkongers reclaiming their Mandatory Provident Fund, even with indefinite leave to remain in the UK or UK citizenship.

作為執政黨工黨的一員，麥道國認為英國政府應對中國侵犯人權、違反《中英聯合聲明》及跨國鎮壓採取更強硬立場。他認為，儘管英國應繼續與中國進行貿易，但必須設立明確的紅線，捍衛人權和民主價值。他強調，中國應該為其行為承擔後果，例如阻止中國在倫敦建設超大使館、撤銷香港經濟貿易辦事處的特殊地位，及加強對中國及香港外交人員的審查。
儘管他支持港人在英國的權益，麥道國擔心港人即使獲得英國永居權或公民身份後，也未必能夠順利取回強積金。
