Press release: The Hong Kong National Party attending an international press conference in Taiwan on "Human rights and self-determination in Asia"

The HKNP's convenor Andy Chan Ho-Tin and spokesman Jason Chow Ho-Fai were invited to attend the "Human rights and self-determination in Asia" press conference, held today (12/9) in Taiwan, and hosted jointly by the Taiwan Human Rights and Cultural Association and the Taiwan Association for China Human Rights. The occasion allowed us to continue our current mission in raising awareness of the human rights abuses that Hong Kong suffers from the hands of the PRC, and of Hong Kongers' indomitable will for independence. The press conference was jointly organised by the HKNP with the Japanese Uyghur Association, the Japanese Taiwan Kenkyu Rondan, and the Taiwanese Independence Reference Human Rights Group. We were joined by representatives from Tibet, Uyghur, and Southern Mongolia, alongside Taiwanese supporters including the New Power Party legislator Freddy Lim; leader of the Taiwan Solidarity Union, Liu I-te; and representatives of the Taiwanese Association of University Professors.

The press conference at hand was called as a response to the Human Rights Day on 10th December. With a united front, and presented via a press conference, we wished to air the many human rights grievances concerning dictatorial oppression of Asiatic peoples and religions to an international audience. For this reason the HKNP was not the only political party invited. On top of the already mentioned, we were also joined by Tashi Tsering, the founder of the Human Rights Network for Tibet and Taiwan; Daichin Olhunud, Executive Secretary-General of the Southern Mongolian Congress; and Ilham Mahmut, chairman of the Japanese Uyghur Association.

When it came to our turn to speak, Hong Kong's own Andy Chan Ho-Tin took the chance gave a speech on Hong Kong's situation: the objective truth that we are currently oppressed by colonists. The human rights condition of Hong Kong has seen nothing but decay in recent times, a far cry from how our previous colonial ruler, the UK has claimed, that "One Country, Two Systems is doing fine." The HKNP also mentioned how the political rights of Hong Kongers have seen unprecedented negligence in the PRC's unilateral "interpretation" of our laws, asserting pressure on our law courts, and disqualifying several of our elected representatives in the legislative council. That Hong Kong's Pro-Independence camp should face such overwhelming political pressure is no surprise to the seasoned representatives present – we are all Asiatic peoples sharing the common woe of Chinese meddling and oppression. Together we shall coordinate an ever-growing opposition, united on our common enemy. At the end of his speech, Andy Chan stressed how much the HKNP treasures this trip to Taiwan, and how the HKNP wishes to rebuild the Taiwanese trust and support for Hong Kong Independence advocates with our proper conduct as a political party.
The HKNP will travel to Taichung with the other press conference attendees, and attend, on 10th December, Human Rights Day, the International Human Rights Carnival hosted by the Taiwan Human Rights and Cultural Association. The day will continue in Tainan at night, where related events continue. The HKNP would like to thank yet again all those who came and supported the "Human rights and self-determination in Asia" conference, in particular the Taiwanese political parties and civilian groups, for lending your ears and arms to Hong Kong's human rights and independence causes.
