Youngspiration’s response to Lord Patten’s comments is as follows:
香港前途自決的路縱然崎嶇顛簸，青年新政仍會奮勇向前，實現數以十萬計香港人的共同願望。香港人對屢遭踐踏的一國兩制經已絕望，在過去的立法會選舉用選票作出表態，支持自決的青年新政、香港眾志、朱凱廸及劉小麗等得到近20%選票。隨著越來越多關心自身前途的年輕人成為選民，自決派的力量將日益壯大。
Self-determination of Hong Kong, however difficult it may seem, is the voice of hundreds of thousands, if not million of Hongkongers. This large number of people, fed up with the broken promise of “One Country, Two Systems”, are represented by not just Youngspiration, but also parties and politicians like Demosisto and LegCo members Eddie Chu and Lau Siu-lai. Supporters of self-determination garnered close to 20 percent of votes in the last election and we foresee that there will be an upward trend since more and more young Hongkongers, who are worried about their own fate, are joining the electorate.
彭定康男爵早前表示「兩年前的雨傘革命有很多勇敢的年輕人為爭取民主建立了道德高地，如果這道德高地因一些愚蠢的行為而喪失，他認為會是一場悲劇」，青年新政未敢苟同。在2014年的雨傘革命，香港人的抗爭是多麼的和平、悲壯、道德高地建立很高，但過去兩年中共仍然肆意打壓民主運動。在數月前的立法會選舉中，多名參選人因政治理念被取消參選資格，更甚的是，傀儡港共政權橫手干預兩名青年新政的立法會議員宣誓，務求將他們趕出議會。如果香港再沒有公平公正的選舉，再容不下開放的政治討論，我們是否還有空間討論民主和管治?
Youngspiration respectfully disagree with Lord Patten’s comments on the so-called “moral position” of the Umbrella Revolution. However peaceful and poignant the protests in 2014 were, these two years have already proved that "strong moral position" yields nothing when we are negotiating with the immoral and authoritarian Chinese Communist Party. In the past few months, we saw dissident candidates be disqualified based entirely on their political convictions; even duly elected LegCo members can be arbitrarily removed from their offices by the sovereign masters of the puppet Hong Kong government. If there is no legitimate election and political discourse, it is impossible to even start our discussion on governance and democracy as advised by Lord Patten.
在此，我們希望與彭定康男爵分享前英國國會議員布萊德魯(Charles Bradlaugh)的故事。布萊德魯是19世紀時期的國會議員，當時議員上任時必須作宗教式宣誓，身為一位無神論者，布萊德魯堅決拒絕此等宣誓。在建制的打壓下，他曾被罰款，甚至監禁。經歷多次補選，他的堅持為期後的宣誓法案(Oath Acts 1888)奠下基礎。以民主選舉結果為依歸的精神，時至今日仍然體現在香港的宣誓及聲明法例中。
We would like to take this opportunity to remind Lord Patten the story of Charles Bradlaugh, an English atheist and republican Liberal MP in the 19th century. Although his attempt to resist the Oath of Allegiance to the Crown led to imprisonment, fines and even by-election, his relentless effort paved the way for the passage of the Oaths Act 1888, in which the spirit live on to today’s Hong Kong laws on oath and declaration.
我們當然知道共產黨並不會像文明的英國政黨般尊崇普世價值。彭定康男爵是一位備受尊敬的政治家，與香港的關係亦密不可分，對於青年新政堅守自己的政治立場實應有更大的包容和理解。
We are, of course, aware that the CCP is no civilised party like the English ones, but staying true to our political platform deserves a little bit more respect from a well regarded politician with such a deep connection to Hong Kong.
青年新政促請英國議會各黨派議員，尤其是反對黨的一眾議員，促使英國政府履行他們的政治及道德責任，維護香港的自由與民主。
