A Russian consular official in Rio de Janeiro has shot dead a man who attempted to rob him in an area the Olympic torch relay had passed through moments earlier.

Brazilian lawyer Marcos Cesar Feres Braga, who holds a vice-consul position at the Russian consulate in Rio, was sitting in his car when the robber approached.
The robber smashed the car window while the man while he sat in his BMW X6, pointing a gun at him and demanding to hand over his watch.
One witness said the robber smashed the window with a revolver, telling Braga, "You've lost, hand over your watch."
[#ff0011]But the diplomat who is trained in ju jitsu[/#ff0011], fought back and wrestled the gun from his assailant, shooting him dead a point-blank range in the process, police said.
The Slovenian cycling team was reportedly passing through the area at the time on a training run.
