Hong Kong Indigenous -Youngspiration Joint Press Conference, Full statement of Ray Wong
(Please scroll down for the English version)

The purpose of this press conference is to announce a new list of candidates which is going to stand for the upcoming Legislative Council N.T. East Geographical Constituency election. Standing in the first place of the list is Mr. Baggio Leung Chung-hang, the convenor of Youngspiration; and Hong Kong Indigenous’s former member Mr. Li Tung Sing will stand in the second place.

Although Li may not have been well-known to the public, he was once a member of Hong Kong Indigenous; but he has just quitted strategically. Li certainly is a brave fighter, and it can be seen from his participation in the Fishball Revolution. Because of his courageous resistance against the tyranny, he is now brought to the High Court, oppresed and threatened by the regime. Obviously, the government wants to deter the protestors from revolting by prosecuting them and pushing them into a dead end. Under such circumstances, Li can hardly live his ordinary life again.

There are a considerable number of fighters in Hong Kong Indigenous who are also oppressed. Yet, we do not regret paying the price as such sacrifice is inevitable if we want to fight against injustice in Hong Kong. It is always worthwhile sacrificing for dreams.

We need to offer help to all the localist activists who are willing to sacrifice themselves in return for a better society. Concrete support, such as voluntary legal services, is very much needed. To achieve this, we need a seat in the Legco, which can provide us with more resources and exposure to the general public. We have to make use of these so that people from all over the world can know better about Hong Kong’s localist camp. And more importantly, we need your support. We will make best use of all we earn from the election to assist all the oppressed protestors -- in which Li is just one of the many nameless heroes.

The reason we put him in the second place of the list is to remind each and every one that: freedom is not free. Freedom comes with a price. A price to pay if you want to protect and defend your homeland.

To protect and assist all the activists, such that they can bring revolutionary changes to Hong Kong for the greater good -- this is the stand of Hong Kong Indigenous. We stand for an election not only because we wish to push forward internal reforms, but also because we want to get more resources to support the activists who fight outside the system. Hong Kong Indigenous will never give up on Hong Kong, and we will never leave any of the selfless fighters to fight alone.

Therefore, whoever shares the same belief with us -- that is willing to utilise the resources obtained from the Legco seat to help the activitists -- is our fellow companion.

We understand that this belief is the most powerful and it is exactly what the puppet government fears the most. This is also why they supress us activists by all means. To stop us from standing for the Legco election, various administrative measures were taken and legal loopholes were made use of. They understand that if we win the election, we will be able to help those who are oppressed, and they will never suceed in deterring us from revolting. That is why they stop a localist candidate from being elected -- they want us to feel hopeless, they want us to surrender and they want our voice to vanish into thin air.

It is their wish to make those who voted for Hong Kong Indigenous in February become unrepresented, such that the localist political parties will fight with one another for the resources. But do remember that we were companions half a year ago, and we have always been. The agenda of this government is to break up the close bond between the locaist parties, so that we will not be able to acheive any revoluntionary change. It is not that they do not love Hong Kong; they hate Hong Kong to an extent that they try very hard to destroy the trust between Hongkongers.

Having revealed the regime’s hidden agenda, we are not going to fall into their trap. As such, ever since the controversial ‘declaration’ was introduced, we have been persuading other persons to go for the N.T. East constituency, as long as they share similar political ideologies with us.

Confronted by a powerful enemy, we have to be very careful and get ourselves prepared for the worst outcome. In such a short period of time, there are indeed not many options available to us. To convince someone to stand for the election and reach a compromise with our beliefs have proven to be very difficult. Not many people are willing to sign up and help Hong Kong Indigenous by giving in on their own polictical beliefs or leaving their own camp.

Nonetheless, Baggio is willing to do so.

The political ideology based upon by Baggio may differ from that of Hong Kong Indigenous. Yet, he thoroughly understands that it has been a difficult times for all of us and we should not insist on our own viewpoints. It is very considerate of him to reconcile and join us in this battle -- where we fight to defend Hong Kong against tyranny. Baggio also recognises the effort and sacrifice made by the localist activists. Therefore, if he is elected, he will devote all the resources he gains to Edward Leung Tin-kei and Hong Kong Indigenous. Despite the fact that Baggio’s standpoint is different from ours, he reconciles with our political ideology and offers his support to us. This is surely the best and the only choice that we can take, since no one else is willing to agree to a compromise.

We have foreseen that we would be oppressed by the puppet government because we are very clear that what we advocate means a big threat to the regime. But we will never let our supporters down. We willl turn the tables and fight back. If Edward is eventually barred from standing for the election, the impact will never be limited to only N.T. East. We will spread our ideology to all the five geographical constituencies by using the same approach: to find representatives from each of the constituencies so that every elector in Hong Kong can show their support by casting their vote to us. Hong Kong Indigenous, together with all the people in support of our ideology, shall stand together. If the puppet government wishes to deprive us of our freedom of thought, then we shall spread the thoughts that they fear even more widely.
