知難而進 焚而不毀──香港大學學生會回應政權對新世代之全面封殺
黃之鋒、羅冠聰、周永康、馮敬恩、梁天琦，接連成為新聞人物。五個名字，於短短三天之內，概括出一個世代的苦難命運。雨傘革命以後，年輕人不甘為奴，奮而反抗，卻遭當權者全面封殺，似乎希望全無。
立法會選舉提名期結束在即，選委會不但要求參選人士簽署額外確認書，表明擁護基本法特別是當中「香港是中國不可分離的部分」、「香港是中國的一個享有高度自治權的地方行政區域，直轄於中央人民政府」等條文，限制參選人在前途問題上的主張，選舉主任更自開埠以來首次政治審查參選人，於前日向新界東候選人梁天琦發信，選擇性附上與其言論相關的剪報和網絡截圖，要求梁即時回覆是否仍會繼續主張及推動香港獨立，梁天琦大有機會因此失去參選資格。種種額外提名程序要求與不合理篩選無異，明顯是針對個別參選人政治主張，剝奪主張港獨自決候選人之參選權，以履行程序之名作政治打壓。
港共治下無人可以自全，本會去屆會長馮敬恩亦因參與捍衛院校自主行動，遭控強行進入及刑事破壞等多項刑事罪行。擔任學生會會長與校委會成員一年間，馮敬恩為捍衛我校，不計個人犧牲無私付出，全港動容。如今馮敬恩遭秋後算帳，與其強行為他加上刑事毀壞等罪名，毋寧說是拒絕向政權屈服、未有因個人得失而退縮之過。
政府為打壓異己手段盡出，時任學民思潮召集人黃之鋒、學聯秘書長周永康和常委羅冠聰亦因前年九二六重奪公民廣場分別被裁定幾項煽惑他人參與非法集結罪、參與非法集結罪成。當時人大八三一決定激起全港市民的反對及震怒，三名學運領袖以身犯險帶領民眾衝入公民廣場，爭取真普選，卻因此而背上罪名，政府對異己可恥的打壓由此可見一斑。
學生抗命，往往被成年人賦予一層道德純淨的超然意義，卻又諷刺地缺乏實質支持。「未來全靠年輕人」一句經常遭人掛於口邊，責任則推得一乾二淨，無力感與歷史的重擔彷彿將未來逐漸壓垮。要守住這個城市，要守住這個時代，要對抗暴政，絕不能單靠年輕人孤軍作戰。黃、羅、周、馮、梁五人的犧牲，若能衍生任何道德力量，那希望如臺灣民進黨創黨元老黃爾璇所言：「今後猶豫顧盼的會因而挺起腰幹，冷漠自私的會因而醒悟，意念蒙蔽的會轉為清明。」
各位同處反抗道上的年輕人，不能認命，我們絕不能認命。如美國詩人Edna St. Vincent Millay所說：「所有的傷痕都會好，只有一種傷痕不會好，就是放棄希望，放棄夢想所留下的傷痕。」人可以遭摧毀，但絕不能被打敗，一旦放棄夢想，傷痕將永不磨滅。雨傘世代短暫奮起，假使無法延續，只會歸於無形。為此，我們必須在不斷反抗中建構希望，直至完成未竟的志業。生在香港，要作一個有尊嚴的人，只有知難而進一途，別無他法。焚而不毀，方能創造未來，歷史將記住這個多難但勇敢的世代。

Broken and Burned, but Strong in Will to Strive and Persist
HKUSU Response to the Suppression over the Young Generation
In three days, what happened to Joshua WONG Chi-fung, Nathan LAW Kun-chung, Alex CHOW Yong-kang, Billy FUNG Jing-en and Edward LEUNG Tin-kei has concluded the misery of our time. After the Umbrella Revolution, refusing to be enslaved, young people in Hong Kong rise to rebel. Yet, they are now suppressed and have they hope taken away.
As the close of the nomination period approaches, the Electoral Affairs Commission asks the potential candidates to sign an additional form to declare that they would uphold the articles of the Basic Law, particularly articles like ‘the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China’ and ‘The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall be a local administrative region of the People's Republic of China, which shall enjoy a high degree of autonomy and come directly under the Central People's Government’, restricting candidates’ advocacy on the question over Hong Kong’s future. The Returning Officer has even forced political censorship on potential candidates by sending a letter to Leung with articles and posts that have been picked and chosen and asked for his immediate reply that whether he would continue to advocate the independence of Hong Kong. It is likely that Leung will be disqualified. Such additional procedures have no difference from filtering potential candidates based on their political advocacy. Advocates proposing the independence of Hong Kong are thus suppressed as they are deprived of their right to be elected.
No one can be free from the tyranny of the current government. Fung, the President of the Hong Kong University Students’ Union of the previous session, is now facing accusations including forcible entry and criminal damage as he joined the campaign to safeguard institutional autonomy. Throughout the year as the President and the member of the HKU Council, he has sacrificed his interest selflessly for our university. Yet, Fung is now charged just because he refuses to yield before tyranny.
The government has been exhausting all means to suppress opponents. Wong from Scholarism and Chow and Chan from the Hong Kong Federation of Students have been convicted for inciting or participating in unlawful assembly. Then the decision of the National People’s Congress has led to public outrage, and the three students leaders led the public to storm the Civic Square. It is outrageous that the government is arresting students who have fought for genuine universal suffrage for Hong Kong.
Students movement has always been morally glorious, and yet, it has always lacked solid and concrete support as well. After saying that ‘our future relies on the young’, many people then leave their responsibilities on us, suffocating us together with a sense of powerlessness and the burden of history. To defend our city against the tyranny, the young cannot fight this battle on their own. If there is any result from the sacrifice of the five students leaders, we hope it is that, just like what Huang Erh-hsuan from the Democratic Progressive Party said, ‘those who hesitate can then stand and rise; those who are selfish and uncaring can then experience their epiphany; those who are confused can then understand’.
To those who are fighting for the same pursuit, we can never, never give up. As Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote, ‘that a dream can die, will be a thrust between my ribs forever of hot pain’. We can be destructed but not defeated, and it will be forever a hot pain if we lose our dream. If we do not persist to rebel after we rose during the Umbrella Revolution, we rose for nothing, and we have to finish what has been started. In Hong Kong, if we want to live with dignity, we must be strong in will to strive and persist albeit being burned and broken down. History will remember our people as those who, amid misery, are brave enough to create the future.
