Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to cleanse the military after a coup attempt that he blamed on a group of followers of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen.

“They will pay a heavy price for their treason,” Erdogan told his followers at Istanbul’s international airport after his plane landed there. His comments were carried by AHaber.




Erdogan said he was in Marmaris, a holiday resort town on Turkey’s coast, which he says was also bombed during the coup attempt, along with the national intelligence agency headquarters, the prime ministry and the presidential palace.
