The online hacktivists Anonymous conducted a series of cyber attacks on the Zimbabwe government websites last Monday for #ZimShutDown2016 or #ShutDownZimbabwe, a protest movement in which citizens are protesting against the Robert Mugabe’s government who has been in power for last 36 years.

Anonymous has also been conducting Operation OpAfrica since 2015 which aims to attack government and oil sectors against corruption, child abuse and child labor in the continent. The recent attack on Zimbabwean government website disrupted the online service of the country’s official portal (zim.gov.zw), ZANUPF – Zimbabwe African National Union- Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (zbc.co.zw).
