凌晨時份，雙方在灣仔峽及金馬倫山交戰。早上8時30分，第230聯隊決定於正午沿灣仔峽推進、再襲向禮頓山。禮頓山上的米杜息士營殘部一直堅守至西旅准許撤退為止，才於向西突圍。

下午6時，日軍砲轟摩利臣山，盡毀山上7座機槍陣地。晚上10時，守軍懷疑日軍正向巴里士山的防空洞網絡及馬己仙峽推進，進入灣仔市區。隨著日軍步步進逼，西旅需要冒險派出車隊在日軍砲火下闖入小香港彈藥庫，才得以補充彈藥。

赤柱戰線方面，東旅在日軍砲擊下緩緩後撤。晚上8時30分，日軍沿赤柱灘道南進，部隊由3輛九四式輕裝甲車領頭。英軍防線則由香港防衛軍第1、2連及米杜息士營D連防守，由防衛軍第2連連長科沙福少校指揮，附近有第965防衛砲連的2門2磅速射砲協防。日軍接近守軍陣地時，科沙福下令發射照明彈照常日軍隊列，迅速擊破3輛裝甲車，令後者陷入混亂。經歷激烈駁火，該防衛砲連最後只有3名砲手生還。

平安夜晚上11時，楊慕琦及莫德庇分別向守軍發出聖誕賀詞：

"From H.E. to Troops:
In pride and admiration I send my greetings this Xmas day to all who are fighting and to all who are working so nobly and so well to sustain Hong Kong against the assault of the enemy.
Fight on, Hold fast for King and Empire. God bless you all in this your finest hour"

"From Fortress HQ to Tps:
Xmas greetings to you all. Let this day be historical in the proud annals of our Empire. The order of the day is Hold Fast".

是晚，日軍為崩解守軍抵抗意志，徹夜砲轟維多利亞城，包括中區堅尼地道、海軍船塢、域多利兵房及總司令部等地。
