First Look at Live-Action ‘Attack on Titan’ Films

Three agonizing months after [#ff0011]the release of the poster[/#ff0011](http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2014/12/15/eren-yeager-stands-tall-in-new-attack-on-titan-poster/), we finally get a first look at footage from the hotly anticipated “Attack on Titan” live-action films.

Unveiled on a Japanese morning show (hence, all the graphics), the footage reveals the principal cast and, best of all, the Colossal Titan in action.

Directed by Shinji Higuchi, the adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s hit manga will be spread across two films, targeted for release in Japan this summer. Isayama worked on the scripts with screenwriter Yuusuke Watanabe (“Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods,” “20th Century Boys”) and film critic Tomohiro Machiyama.

Debuting in 2009, “Attack on Titan” is a post-apocalyptic fantasy set in a world where remorseless, flesh-eating giants have all but wiped out humanity, whose remnants are forced to live within a country surrounded by three enormous walls. The story initially centers on Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and their childhood friend Armin Alert, who join the military to fight the Titans after their hometown is attacked and Eren’s mother eaten.

The manga has inspired spinoffs, a hit anime series, tons of merchandise and video games. It was revealed earlier this month that [#ff0011]Sony Pictures Entertainment had registered numerous domain names tied to an “Attack on Titan” movie[/#ff0011](http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2015/03/09/is-sony-plotting-an-attack-on-titan-movie/), suggesting a U.S. version could be in development.

The movie has an August release in Japan directed by Shinji Higuchi starring Haruma Miura, Kiko Mizuhara, Kanata Hongô, Satomi Ishihara, Nanami Sakuraba, Takahiro Miura and Hiroki Hasegawa.

Synopsis:

Mankind is under the terror of titans, a beast in which feast on human flesh. Eren Yeager, a young boy determined to make change when he himself could transform into one. He is humanity's last hope.
